A large warship was proceeding along the coast one night when the helmsman informed the Captain that another vessel was approaching. The Captain instructed the signalman to signal: "Change course. Change course. We are a warship on patrol." The lights kept coming closer and the signal came back: "You change course, you change course, we have right of way." The Captain got angry and told the signalman to signal: "No. We have right of way, I am an Admiral and this ship is a ship of war on patrol." The other lights came closer still, and flashed back: "You change course, you change course. We have right of way." The Captain/Admiral became furious and told the signalman to signal: "If you don't change course I'm going to fire on you. Get out of the way. I have the right of way." Back came the signal: "Go ahead. I'm a lighthouse."
