One afternoon we drove the 15 miles or so along the old highway to Mazatlan to El Mirador del Aguila (View of the Eagles).

The highway was reminiscent of the Durango highway, twisty and steep with heavy truck traffic. This small shrine by the roadside memorializes two young men who died in December, 2006, either in a head-on collision or by missing the turn and ending up over the cliff.
