The town's main focus is shrimping. We saw fish and shrimp spread out to dry along the sidewalks. We were confronted with dried shrimp on our table at lunchtime. An acquired taste we thought. Our lunch table overlooked the lagoon with shorebirds ready for table leavings.

Mexcaltitán is a special place, well off the beaten path and not much visited. It's worth the effort to get there.
